Transportation Sustainability: How We’re Reducing Our Energy Footprint

Transportation is a major contributor to economic and social development challenges. According to the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), transportation is responsible for 64% of global oil consumption, 27% of energy use, and 23% of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. Improving transportation through structural changes helps improve emission levels and air quality.

At Watsontown Trucking Company, we’re deeply committed to helping businesses like yours adopt sustainable transportation practices that protect the planet and the bottom line. Whether it’s our growing fleet of electric vehicles or our ongoing exploration of energy- and fuel-efficient business practices, we never stop working to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

What is Sustainable Transportation?

Sustainable transportation refers to energy-efficient, affordable modes of transport with low- and zero-emission features, such as electric and alternative-fuel vehicles. The advantages of sustainable transportation include:

  • Fuel and vehicle cost savings

  • Decreased carbon emissions by using clean energy sources

  • New employment opportunities through the growth of vehicle and battery manufacturing, as well as the fuel production sector

  • Better accessibility to dependable, reasonably priced transportation

  • Improved energy security and lower dependence on foreign materials and fuels

To ensure our operations are as sustainable as possible, we regularly evaluate our equipment and practices.

Fuel & Energy Conservation Initiatives

Watsontown Trucking Company has invested time and money into the conservation of energy and fuel. In terms of fuel conservation, our trucks are equipped with no-idle auxiliary power units, trailer skirts, and EPA-verified tire technology. To conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint, our diesel-powered vehicles use biodiesel, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 86 percent.

Electric Vehicles at Watsontown Trucking

Electric vehicles charge their batteries directly from the grid or other off-board electrical power sources, which can lead to notable energy security and emissions advantages. Our fleet currently includes five Volve VNR electric trucks. We have plans to increase our number of electric vehicles in the near future and our goal is to be carbon neutral by 2050.

The sustainable transportation initiatives taken by Watsontown Trucking Company demonstrate our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting a cleaner and greener future.

By investing in low-emission and energy-efficient technologies and adopting alternative fuels, we have not only decreased our environmental footprint but also achieved significant cost savings for our business – and yours. We are proud of our achievements and look forward to continuing to implement new initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future.
